Three policemen, including an inspector, were suspended on Wednesday after a video showing them consuming alcohol in their office in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district surfaced online. The video, which went viral on social media, depicted Inspector Sanjiv Kumar and head constables Anuj Kumar and Ashwani Kumar drinking in the Dial-112 (emergency helpline) office. A liquor bottle and glasses used for making drinks were also visible in the footage.
In response to the incident, an official statement announced the suspension of the three officers and the launch of an inquiry. The additional superintendent of police, Shamli, has been tasked with investigating the matter and submitting a report. The suspensions and investigation highlight the seriousness with which the police department is treating the misconduct.
